Matt Rife’s Early Years
Matt Rife started his comedy journey at age 14 when a teacher told him about a high school talent show. Encouraged by a friend, he took the stage and turned pro at age 15.
At the tender age of just 17 months old, Matt faced a tough twist when his biological dad, Michael Rife, left this world. The passing of his father left his mom juggling to care for five kids, making their childhood a bit of a tightrope walk as they lived hand-to-mouth.
Matt Rife’s Rise to Fame
Matt Rife shaped his comedy style after comedy legends like Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler, Jim Varney, Robin Williams, and David Spade. From his debut in Room 236 in 2015 to the wild success of Bring the Funny and starring in Wild 'n Out, Matt slowly rose to stardom.
Before his TikTok fame, he appeared in sitcoms like Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fresh Off The Boat, as well as the Disney XD show Gamer's Guide to Pretty Much Everything.

What is Matt Rife Known For?

What Happened To Matt Rife? Controversies on Matt Rife
Matt Rife & Zendaya
During his stint on an episode of Wild 'N Out, he once tested the waters with none other than the Queen herself, Zendaya.
In a 2015 video, Zendaya, at 18, joined Nick Cannon's show and faced off against Matt's team.
In a "Talking Spit" game segment, 19-year-old Matt playfully tried to make Zendaya laugh and spit out water.
Things took a slightly weird turn when he invaded her personal space, commenting on her race and awkwardly asking for her number.
Body Shaming
Matt Rife has had his fair share of controversies following his breakout into the industry. Earlier last year, he stirred up controversy with a rather inappropriate remark about women's bodies during a discussion on the Stiff Socks podcast, sparking a wave of criticism on social media. It's no wonder he has several failed relationships.
You can find what he said here.
Domestic Violence Joke
Matt Rife was also criticized for cracking insensitive jokes about domestic violence in his Netflix special, Natural Selection.
He told a tale of a quirky Baltimore eatery where he was wondering why a server with a black eye wasn't hidden in the kitchen. He said, “Yeah, but I feel like if she could cook, she wouldn't have that black eye." While addressing the audience, he described the controversial joke as testing the waters for their sense of humor, believing that starting with domestic violence sets the tone for a smooth show.
Unsurprisingly, the joke sparked social media controversy, prompting Rife to apologize humorously on Instagram. In an already-deleted post, he wrote, "If you've ever been offended by a joke I've told—here's a link to my official apology.”
His message included a link labeled "Tap to solve the issue," redirecting users to a health website selling special needs helmets. Mocking those offended by his domestic violence joke by linking it to special needs gear only fueled the controversy further.
Weird Comments to a Minors
In December 2023, Rife stirred up more controversy with his inappropriate comment towards a six-year-old, stating that the child’s mother bought gifts with money earned on OnlyFans.
Despite all these controversies, the comedian still manages to stay relevant, undeterred by the backlash he has faced. It’s best to say he knows how to cheat the cancel culture.
Matt Rife Girlfriend
In the early days of his public dating history, Matt's most renowned connection was with none other than Kate Beckinsale. This Hollywood duo had a brief relationship in 2017 when the Serendipity actress was 43 and Matt, the budding comedian, was just 21.
However, little can only be said about their time together. At 23, Rife spilled the details about his year-long romance with Beckinsale, labeling it a "complicated" journey with plenty of highs and lows.
Is Matt Rife Married?
No. But Matt Rife has been dating actress Jessica Lord since 2023.
Is Matt Rife Gay?
There have been rumors that Matt Rife is gay, but as far as we know, those are not true, as he has been currently dating Jessica.
