NASCAR Cup Series: 2025 Food City 500
Tour Name: NASCAR Cup Series Race Date: Sunday, April 13, 2025 |
The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series resumes this weekend with the running of the Food City 500 from historic Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. Christopher Bell has won three of the first eight races, capturing the Ambetter Health 400, the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix, and the Shriners Children's 500 back-to-back-to-back.
Bell is on top of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Standings after eight races. Denny Hamlin—who has won two weeks in a row—William Byron, Kyle Larson, Josh Berry, Chase Elliott, Tyler Reddick, Ryan Blaney, Bubba Wallace, and Joey Logano round out the Top 10.
Toyota, driven by Bell, won four of the first eight races, and Denny Hamlin also got a checkered flag for the manufacturer with his victory at the Cook Out 400 at Martinsville.
This is the 77th season of NASCAR pro stock car racing and the 54th in the modern-era NASCAR Cup series. It will be the first season with an in-season tournament which revs up with the Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia on June 28.
There are a total of 38 races, 36 are points-paying races and 2 are exhibitions (Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, and All-Star Race). There will be 10 Playoff races, starting with the Round of 16 and the Cook Out Southern 500 from Darlington Raceway, in Darlington, South Carolina on Sunday, August 31.
The 2025 season comes to an end with the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Phoenix Raceway in Avondale, Arizona on Sunday, November 2 (NBC).
Last year, when the race returned to a concrete surface after three years of racing on dirt, Denny Hamlin won the 2024 Food City 500 in his Toyota for the Joe Gibbs Racing team. His time was 3:20:41 for the 500 laps and he averaged 79.678 mph. Toyota has won seven of the last 10 Food City 500s and the last three in a row.

How Long Are NASCAR Series Cup Races?
NASCAR Cup Series races generally fall in the 300 and 500-mile range. The famous Daytona 500 is 500 miles. The longest race on the circuit is the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Tar Heel State at 600 miles.
Time-wise, NASCAR Cup Series races are usually about 3 hours long. The shortest race in NASCAR history was a race from the Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California which lasted just 1 hour and 8 minutes. The longest NASCAR race ever was the 1952 Southern 500 which lasted 6 hours and 42 minutes.
Weather delays, crashes, track conditions, and various other realities can lengthen the time of a NASCAR race. The inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race here at Bristol Motor Speedway on the dirt surface was marred by problems like dust, mud, tire wear, and bad weather. After three years of racing on dirt, the race went back to concrete last season.

About Bristol Motor Speedway
One of the most famous tracks on the NASCAR circuit, Bristol Motor Speedway opened in 1961 as Bristol International Raceway. The track holds 146,000 people and also features a drag strip and is owned by Speedway Motorsports, LLC.
BMS has hosted an NFL exhibition game, an MLB game, and a College Football game. The Food City 500 is the most renowned race held in Bristol. Joe Weatherly won the first race here in 1961 when the track was asphalt. In 1993, it was changed to concrete.
The race would run on concrete until 2021 when three Food City 500 races were held on dirt (clay). It sounded better than it ran and looked and was returned to concrete last year.
