About Chris Stapleton

Christopher Alvin Stapleton was born on April 15, 1978, in Lexington, Kentucky, and he grew up in Staffordsville, Kentucky, graduating from Johnson Central High School in Pantsville, where he played football across from future NFL #1 pick Tim Couch (Browns).

The future singer-songwriter was class Valedictorian for the Golden Eagles before moving to Nashville, Tennessee—the Mecca of Country Music—to attend Vanderbilt University before dropping out to pursue a career in music.

After signing with Sea Gayle Music, Stapleton became known as a great songwriter, and the rising solo country star also penned hit songs for artists like Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Adele, Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Josh Turner, Luke Bryan, and Sheryl Crow.

Stapleton was the lead vocalist for both The SteelDrivers and The Jompson Brothers before emerging as a solo act. His first solo album, Traveller (2015), hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 200. His cover of “Tennessee Whiskey” got diamond certification from the RIAA.

He has already won 11 Grammy Awards and has been married to his wife, Morgane Hayes, since 2007. The happy couple has five children—four boys and a girl—including Waylon and twins Macon and Samuel. The family calls Nashville home, like many country artists.
